Sometimes you create something that leaves an impact on your heart. Something that is full of meaning & leaves a lasting impact on you as a designer. That’s how I felt while designing this gorgeous brand for The Grand Texana. To me, this brand launch was more than just building a brand. It was about building connections & meaningful relationships.
The Grand Texana: Getting to know the People behind the Brand
A few months ago, I met with Stormye & Anne (Nana Anne if you’re like family 😉 ) to talk about their branding. They were in a place with their business of unsureness. Not in the business itself, but where to take their brand and how to keep it growing! I drove up to Hempstead and we met at The Grand Texana. We ended up talking for over 3 hours about everything from life, to business, and anything in between!
After our talk, they gave me a tour of their incredibly stunning and gorgeous venue & I knew I had made a meaningful connection beyond just a brand. Sitting with them and taking the time to get to know them, their business, and their struggles, I knew we had formed so much deeper of a connection than just a brand design. They instantly became like family.
The Grand Texana is a historic family owned wedding venue based in the beautiful state of Texas. It’s one of the most stunning barn venues in Houston if you ask me! What started out as a historic family owned farm, transformed into a classic & elegant wedding venue. The gorgeous landscape of The Grand Texana draws you in to its southern charm, with it’s big open fields, all white dairy barn, gorgeous natural light & cows in the distance, you can’t help but fall in love with it!
The Grand Texana: Designing a Personal, Elegant, & Timeless Brand
The goal of the Grand Texana is to share their unique historical setting with their clients. They provide a superior, warm and friendly personal service with beautiful unique pieces to ensure their couples and their families have a gorgeous wedding day that is stress-free. When we set out to design The Grand Texana’s brand, I knew it had to be personal & showcase the true charm of the venue itself & the people who made it so special. It had to be full of heart & meaning, and not just another brand design. When I set out to start this brand design, I mentioned to Anne the idea of creating a series of hand-drawn sketches that truly pulled the charm & uniqueness of the venue in & showcased what made it so special. She instantly fell in love with the idea & that’s what I set out to do. I created a series of hand-drawn renderings of actual showcase pieces of the Grand Texana. From the historic dairy barn, to the Greenhouse Arbor, each hand drawing represents something unique & special the Grand Texana provides it’s couples & their families! This venue truly is a unique gem and I wanted to showcase everything that made it so special!
The Grand Texana: Designing the website. Creating an impact while staying true to their business.
Once we finalized their brand design, we moved into their website. This site was a BIG deal y’all. We were not only moving it from a Yahoo hosting site over to Showit, but we were going to be building something that needed to remain consistent with their current clients & brand, while also updating it and bringing it to life with a new & modern flair to it. Let me tell y’all, this was my most challenging & rewarding project to this day! Building something to become modern, while still staying true to its original branding is a challenge. But it was a challenge I could not wait to tackle!
We needed to design something that was not only desktop friendly, but also mobile friendly & easily translatable across all forms of technology. Something that wouldn’t lose its luster or charm when being viewed on a variety of devices. We also needed it to be not only true to the venue and previous brand design, but showcase the beauty of the new branding & transformation of their business. Check out their site here or feel free to watch this video here exploring their site!!
The Grand Texana: Marketing Collateral & Items for their business
Last but certainly not least, we designed their marketing collateral. Marketing collateral is SO important to businesses! I cannot stress enough how important it is!! When you’re building a cohesive & strong brand design, you want to have marketing collateral that truly matches and brings that vision to life. What do I mean by that?
For The Grand Texana’s brand, we designed business cards, stationary, Next Steps PDF packets they send out to couples who are interested in booking with them, and thank you cards! All of these items were branded to their business to create a sense of cohesiveness with their new brand & showcase their gorgeous venue!
Closing Notes: What Made this Project so Special & What I learned
This project was one of my biggest branding designs to date. It was full of exciting moments, twists & turns, and new challenges I had never encountered as a designer before. But what made this project so special & unique was the people behind it. I’m not exaggerating or lying when I say that Anne, Stormye, & their family truly have a special place in my heart. They have been such amazing clients to work with, and beyond just clients, it was amazing to get to tell their story and bring their vision to life. Clients, who I now consider friends, are the reason I love what I do. They inspired me so much with this project, presented me with challenges, and seeing this brand come to life feels like Christmas morning! I am so thrilled to have been given this opportunity to design such a gorgeous brand for them & I cannot wait to see what 2021 brings their business!
